SITE AND CONTEXT

The guiding principle of the design is to create a school campus that is cost effective but high in quality, using simple forms, robust finishes and economical, low maintenance materials.

The site is bordered by Batholomeu Street along the North-Western border and by Dawn Street along the top North-Eastern edge.

The site is steeply sloped with a fall of ten meters, the highest point at Dawn Street and the lowest point on Bartholomeu Street. The Sports field is placed on the edge of Bartholomeu street where the least cut and fill would be necessary, hence the placement of the school building along the top and left hand side of the site.

Classrooms facing the view towards the South (stretching over Paarl into the distant mountains) make use of this view by having lower windows, where appropriate.
