GENERAL LAYOUT

The Multi-purpose Hall is placed in a central, celebratory position alongside the administrative building, bordering the North East boundary and forming a dominant movement axis. The Hall, Admin and Head of Department Offices also act as a mediating element between the Foundation, Intermediate and Senior classrooms and Courtyards to prevent bullying as far as possible and passively survey any movement between the different phases. The central placement of the hall alongside the field is to emphasize the school building as an important public institution, and to instil a sense of pride in the surrounding community about the importance of educating future generations.

Learners arrive in the main promenade/walkway from New Public Street and Bartholomeu Street, defined by the Hall, Admin, and Sports field. The learners then move along the promenade, flanked by Specialist classrooms to the various phase’s more intimately scaled courtyards. A strength of this design is that it offers the learners this clear distinction between the public spaces used by the whole school, and the private courtyard spaces provided for everyday educational requirements.
